As part of establishing the Biodiscovery Platform, the Bioeconomy Science Institute Maiangi Taiao commissioned an independent market analysis of New Zealand’s biodiscovery landscape, which was completed in April 2026.
While the scope and structure of the report were developed iteratively with the Bioeconomy Science Institute Maiangi Taiao, the underlying research, analysis, findings and conclusions to have been independently developed by Coriolis Research.
The primary purpose of the report was to map the current biodiscovery sub-sectors and markets in Aotearoa New Zealand that are derived from native flora and fauna, and to establish a broad baseline estimate of their economic value. The report examines the organisations and businesses that comprise the biodiscovery sector and identifies the key opportunities and barriers influencing its growth and success.
The findings are being used to inform the design of the Detailed Plan for the Biodiscovery Platform, guide strategic investment decisions, and identify the most effective ways to support the development and commercialisation of biodiscovery opportunities.
