Our biggest challenges such as economic growth, biosecurity, climate resilience, and biodiversity loss are complex and much broader than any one scientific discipline.  They are systems level and require new ways of thinking and working together.

As a newly formed organisation we are taking the opportunity to align ourselves around the big opportunities in the areas we can make the most impact.

We will do this through adopting a Missions-Led Science Framework.

This framework will enable us to focus our science, organise our expertise, and work together with industry, government, and Māori partners to solve the challenges that matter most for Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.

We will focus on six Mission Impact Areas:

Each mission will be supported by clear, measurable targets, developed with partners. These targets will guide how we prioritise work, invest resources, and collaborate — ensuring our science remains focused and relevant.

Over the coming months we will be working with our staff on how we bring the Missions-led Science Framework to life, aligning our science and capability, and building the structures needed to support delivery.
